Why is it important to teach leadership skills?

Teaching kids leadership skills can boost their self-esteem and motivation to work hard at a goal or try new things. They'll also strengthen their sense of control and self-identity. They'll learn to recognise their own needs and speak up when they need to. Leaders do not freeze in times of uncertainty or when a decision needs to be made. They courageously decide and act and hold themselves accountable for their decisions and actions. 

The words “I choose” are important too. This is affirming a decision made by your child, the child is taking control and not merely focusing on “who they are” or their innate ability. Kids who believe that their achievements are because of their efforts, are more likely to persevere, persist and act to achieve their goals.
